Ecology Trip to Dublin Zoo

On Friday the 20th of March 2026 Ms. Memery’s fifth year Biology students and 3rd year Science students went to Dublin Zoo. While there the students completed the habitat study which forms a compulsory part of their ecology course. The students worked with a zoo teacher and mapped their own habitat , observed pitfall traps, identified and described animal and plant species and conducted a qualitative and quantitative study. They recorded abiotic factors and compiled a comprehensive fieldwork report to better understand the different ecological concepts. An excellent ecology fieldwork report was completed. The students also had the opportunity to visit the zoo to observe the animal’s adaptations and behaviours. There were very informative fact sheets for all to study. A great day out was had by all.

Biology Photosynthesis Practical.

The fifth Biology class investigated how light intensity affects plant oxygen production using pondweed (Elodea). Students placed Elodea in water, varied the distance of the lamp, and counted the oxygen bubbles as a measure of a photosynthesis rate. The closer the lamp was to the Elodea the more bubbles were counted. This showed a greater rate of photosynthesis.

Senior B’s are Semi-Final Bound!

After a hard-fought win yesterday over a strong Coláiste na hInse side, the girls have qualified for the Schools Cup Semi-Finals, marking the first time our school has reached this stage. Their effort and teamwork shone through, with some impressive serves and powerful attacks sealing the win. All eyes now turn to Athlone, where they will face their biggest challenge yet against some very successful opposition in Coláiste Muire Ennis and Sutton Park School. Wishing the girls the very best of luck!

CodePlus Graduation (Transition Year)

Well done to Biya in Transition Year, who graduated from the TAP CodePlus programme last week. This programme is a mix of team-based, hands-on coding projects, problem solving and computational thinking activities, and an opportunity to meet with women either studying or working in the field. It also supports students in gaining a better insight into college life generally, becoming more confident in meeting new students, and gaining some skills in public speaking and communication.

Congratulations to our Simon Community 5k participants

We were proud to welcome the Simon Community to our school this week as they presented our students with an award for achieving the highest participation in their 5K fundraiser last October. A special highlight of the day was an inspiring talk from Olympic athlete Jack Raftery, followed by a running workshop where students had the chance to put their skills to the test, finishing with a sprint challenge against him!

A huge thank you to Glen, Chelsey, Jack and Gay for taking the time to visit and make the day so memorable. Congratulations to all the students and teachers whose enthusiasm, effort, and fundraising made this possible. A memorable achievement in support of such an important cause.

TY Rowing

Our TY students took part in the Tallaght Rowing Blitz on Tuesday, their final indoor event of the programme. They will now move on to training at Neptune Rowing Club, before finishing the season with a final outdoor blitz in May.
